Hi! Tom Finley here. I used to look like Toobie when I was in high school but that was awhile ago. I'm older, but I still jump in the ocean for fun and love to draw when I'm on dry land. Over the years I've done a number of illustrated books and things, including games books, mazes and graphic novels. I did a long-running comic strip for Surfer Magazine before moving to Hawaii, where I live with my wife and am visited now and then by the kids.

To be honest, I don't know much about my "kid" Herschel C. Snodgrass. I don't even know what the "C" stands for. I know he lives in a small town but I don't know which one. I think he's maybe 14 years old, but he could be 11. His friends seem more like 16 or 17. I do know that the Sound Hound is from Miami, but I don't know whose dog he is. He just kinda hangs around.

One thing I do know for sure, Herschel and his pals get into some bizarre adventures! I hope you enjoy them.

If you like to draw cartoons, you may be interested in the things I do to draw Herschel. Most of the cartoons you see here at snodgrasscomics.com are drawn with a bottle of black artist's ink and a very tiny brush that can make very thin lines. The brush is called a Windsor-Newton Series 7-00. I bought so many of them over the years I haven't needed a new one in more than a decade! I guess you can still buy them. I always draw on Strathmore Single-Ply drawing paper. It's like a big, shiny index card. But now I'm using the computer, a digital drawing pad and software to do most of my art. I use three programs right now: CorelDraw, Xara Extreme and Sketchbook Pro. In the cartoon at the top of the page I drew each figure with a brush as part of several comic strips. I used the software to cut the individual cartoons from the comic strips, then used the software to rearrange everything into what you see, and added the color. MUCH easier than to do it all by hand.

Anyway, thanks for checking in. Please tell your friends about Herschel's web site. Remember, it's all free and always will be. No ads or anything like that.

God Bless You,

Tom Finley
